Apple dropped built-in support for PostScript files in macOS Sonoma, which includes EPS files. Sketch is fully integrated with macOS, so these changes affected how Sketch handles EPS files. Luckily, there are several workarounds you can try.
How to import EPS files into Sketch
If you’re running macOS Sonoma or newer (version 14.x) you’ll need to convert the EPS file into a supported format to import it to Sketch. Since EPS is vectorial, we recommend converting to PDF or SVG.
There are different tools to do the conversion, here are some examples:
-
A third party app like Ghostscript. It’s a command line tool you can run on your Mac’s Terminal app if you feel comfortable with this type of solution.
-
An online converter. There’s a good amount of options available, both paid and free and these do not require the use of a command line tool. Try a web search for eps online converter and you’ll get a good amount of options to evaluate.
The tool you choose will carry out the conversion into PDF or SVG, which you can then import into Sketch. Which format yields better results will depend on the contents of your EPS file. Both SVG and PDF will retain the editing capabilities when you make the import.
