This article explains the language options available in the Mac App and guides you on how to switch between them.
As an international team, we use English as the primary language for creating our products and services. However, we have developed localization projects to improve the experience in the Sketch Mac app. Currently, the Mac app supports Simplified Chinese and Spanish in addition to English. The app will automatically follow your system language settings if set to either of these languages.
Please note, the Web app and Documentation are only available in English.
To change the system language settings…
- Make sure you quit Sketch Mac app first
- On your Mac, click on the Apple menu > System Settings,
- Click General in the sidebar,
- Then click Language & Region on the right.
- Under the Preferred Languages list, do any of the following:
- Add a new language by clicking the + plus symbol
- Change the primary language by dragging the preferred language to the top of the languages list.
- Reboot your Mac.
To change only the app language without affecting the whole system…
- Make sure you Quit Sketch Mac app first
- On your Mac, click on the Apple menu > System Settings,
- Click General in the sidebar,
- Then click Language & Region on the right.
- At the bottom, under the Application section click on the + Symbols
- Select Sketch as the affected app and select which language you want to set.
- Restart Sketch.
The steps outlined in this article are compatible with macOS Sonoma or higher. If you are using an earlier version of macOS, please refer to the official Apple support article for your version. You can access it here, select your macOS version, and follow the correct instructions.
A small caveat for collaboration
When a document is created by an editor with their language set to Spanish or Chinese, the default names for layers and pages are written in that same language. In a collaborative environment, for other team members who use the default English language, they won’t see these names translated into English.
If you have any more questions or encounter further issues with language settings in Sketch, don’t hesitate to contact our support team.
